Presentation Day - Kie Mata

Today was the day we presented our project. We presented an "satisfactory" video of all of us playing "Classic Dance" with some "interpretive" drums in the backround. We talked about what we did, and then they improvised a blues piece.

It didn't go quite as planned, because our main song was, let's just say, unable to be played. However, they still learned how to play basic piano technique and scales, as demonstrated by their improvised blues piece. This taught me that teaching is very hard, and can be a good experience to not only others, but to make even yourself a better player. Also, It may sometimes lead to some disappointing results. Overall, they had showed motivation and effort along the way I can say that I am proud of my students.

If we could do this again, I know the main thing we could get in order is the organization of time. Along their road of learning, other people seemed to hold us up, because the piano was again, usually taken, although we have no one else to blame but me, as lack of responsibility for not bringing an electric keyboard to school. We also could not come up with a song, as they had wishes of playing songs they could not agree on. Again, it was my fault I could not settle this disagreement, and should have insisted sticking to the lesson music.

This has been an interesting experience for me, being that I have not taught students "seriously" and "officially" before. I am okay with how this project came out, and proud of my students for their effort and motivation. In the future, I will definitely teach them songs they want to learn, if they want to.

Day 4 -Mike Mott

The piano was taken for most of the period by some other students, so we had to find a different way to be productive. Kie brought in some piano books, so i started looking in those to find a final song to play. I only found one that was kinda cool, so we went to the library to look at more music online. I am not sure what i am going to play, but i know it will be awesome!!!

Day 4 - Kie Mata

Today the piano was unfortunately taken for most of the time. To be productive, we looked through piano books for ideas on a better song to learn. We also went to the library to find other and more popular songs, and possible sheet music. They have some ideas for our final song, such as music by Tank, and Stevie Wonder, or just a simple blues-y beginner song from one of my beginner performance books. I am hoping the next Google day will be more productive. Because the piano is usually hogged by other people, I will work around this problem and bring in my own keyboard next time.

Day 4-Aram Yang

Today we tried to choose a song to play on our final day.

We listned to Kai play some songs from the begining book and was going to play Hot Sping Dance? or something like that

BUT we wondered off somewhere over the rainbow and decided to play something else. I think Mike will play a song that I dont even know what is called, and I'll be playing the easiest song by Yiruma.

I'll have my song chosen with sheet music by next class

Day 3 - Aram Yang

Kai brought in his old piano books for beginners and we learned how to play "Classic Dance"

It was hard in the begining but as Kai and Mr Matthys thought me little by little I managed to finish the song.

Kai will bring in more books so we could choose a song that we will be playing during our final day.

Day 3 - Kie Mata

Today I brought some piano books to teach the two. The song they chose was "Classic Dance". It was both easy enough for them and perfect to teach basic concepts like finger numbers, dynamics, and fluency.

Being that I have never taught piano before, this is also a learning experience for me as it is teaching me how to teach. Because I am a new at teaching, I have faced challenges like the urge to teach fast, and not slowing down enough. They are getting significantly better every day.

Day 2- Mike Mot

today we did not have any music to learn, so i went on a search for some music. I could only find an accompaniment book for piano solos. It was very difficult to say the least. We were having a bit of difficulty learning, so Mr. Matthys came over and helped us out. het kept telling us 3-5, 2-4, and 1-5... these tell me what fingers to use. Piano is turning out to be way more difficult than i thought. I still cant figure out how to read two line at once, let alone two lines in different clefs.

Day 2 - Aram Yang

Mike and I tried to learn Melody and Mr. Matthys helped us with 5,3 ; 4,2; 5,1 and way more complicated stuff. I realized how hard to learn piano is and my respect to piano players boosted way up. Kie said he'll bring a beginner books for us so lets see what happens next time!

Day 1 - Michael Mott

Today was the first day that I learned how to play the piano. Being a saxophone player, it was very difficult to unjust to the piano. I learned how to play 2 scales, C & D. We learned how to play the scales with the right fingerings. It is going to be interesting to see how I do when we try to learn how to read to parts at the same time. We're getting better everyday.
